Artificial Sweetener

Using an artificial sweetener is an easy way to cut back on calories and still feed that sweet tooth. Common artificial sweeteners include saccharin, sucralose, acesulfame-k, and aspartame. People looking to cut back on sugar have traditionally turned to artificial sweeteners because they have fewer calories and reduced effect on blood sugar levels. Unfortunately, these artificial sweeteners cannot be used for many applications (such as baking) and have a completely different taste and texture. Similarly, artificial sweeteners are not recommended for pregnant women, and little is known about how they affect children. Although research studies don't provide a clear link between artificial sweetener and human cancer, findings show that certain artificial sweeteners have caused cancer in laboratory animals. Conversely, xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar substitute that is crystalline in form and looks and tastes like sugar. Xylitol is all-natural, not artificial, and is a normal substance used in everyday metabolism. Found mostly in fruits and vegetables, xylitol is perfectly safe for human consumption and has been given the FDA's safest rating as a food additive. Because xylitol is absorbed slowly and only partially utilised by the body, it contains 40% less calories than sugar, about 2.4 calories per gram. Xylitol serves as a popular sugar substitute for diabetics and people with hypoglycaemia. It has an extremely low Glycaemic Index (7) and has little effect on blood sugar levels. Xylitol is a great sugar substitute for net carb counters and that low carb diet.

In addition, over 2 decades of Clinical studies and use confirm that xylitol is effective in reducing dental decay and bacterial growth. Sugar-free chewing gums, and sweets made with xylitol have received official endorsements from six national dental associations. Xylitol has also been found to have other substantial health benefits and serves as a defence against sinus, ear, and upper respiratory infections. Xylitol is recommended by dentists, medical doctors, periodontists, paediatricians and other healthcare professions and organisations world-wide.

Xlear Inc. manufactures a variety of natural, health-enhancing products based on pure xylitol. 100% pure pharmaceutical grade xylitol sweetener, Xylosweet, is a great alternative to sugar and can actually reduce the development of dental cavities in your mouth. Spry Dental Defense System products are sugar-free and help you maintain good dental hygiene.
